What is the total?
Adding up only the fixed official fees (theory exam, practical exam, digital VOG and chauffeurskaart):
- Full chauffeurskaart: €51.40 + €279.25 + €33.85 + €177.87 = €542.37
- Restricted chauffeurskaart: €51.40 + €223.35 + €33.85 + €177.87 = €486.47
A VOG requested via the municipality adds €7.50. On top of that come the medical certificate, any lessons and every re-take: you may take the exam again, but you pay the exam fee again.
The steps to your chauffeurskaart
- Theory exam (TVT) at the CBR. From age 17, booked via Mijn CBR. 40 questions in 60 minutes; you pass with 32 or more correct. The exam is in Dutch only. The result is valid for 1 year.
- Practical exam at the CBR. From age 18 with a valid driving licence B. Your driving school books it after you authorise them. If your licence shows code 100, 101 or 105, you cannot get a taxi chauffeurskaart. After theory and practical you receive the chauffeursdiploma, which never expires.
- VOG for taxi drivers from Justis.
- Taxi medical certificate from an examining doctor.
- Apply for the chauffeurskaart at Kiwa Register with the online form, your driving licence B, VOG, chauffeursdiploma and medical certificate. Kiwa only processes complete, paid applications (paid by bank transfer after the invoice). Within four weeks you get a text and email to book delivery; you must receive the card in person.
Full or restricted?
The restricted practical exam takes 70 minutes with one driving assignment (contract transport). The full practical exam takes 85 minutes and adds a street-taxi assignment, including explaining the fare. The theory exam (TVT) is the same for both.
Save on re-takes: practise first
Every new theory exam attempt costs €51.40 again. With ChauffeurKlaar you practise with 13 full exams in the same format (40 questions, pass from 32 correct), with explanations in Dutch, English and Arabic. Your first exam is free; packages from €9,95. Read more about the exam itself in The CBR taxi theory exam explained.
